Meet the Team at Tyrnog Racing Yard

Our success is not only down to the quality of our horses but the hard work of our top quality team.

 

Here at Tyrnog Racing Yard we work really hard as a team to ensure that each horse receives the individual care and training that they need. We believe that all horses are different and each one has different needs, which we ensure, we cater for. All our horses work hard when in training Monday to Saturday but they also need the time to be horses, which they do each Sunday out in the fields - getting as muddy as they possibly can (making brushing on a Monday morning a very long job) Tyrnog Racing Yard's motto is 'Happy and Loved horses work hard to get results!'

 

Without the backing of all our team we wouldn't be where we are today - with the RESULTS that we have.

 

Here is our dedicated team at Tyrnog, which we are hoping will grow as we do.

 

Ray - Trainer

Ray has 14 years experience in point-to-point racing as a trainer, co-owner and jockey and in this time has had some notable wins. He has a long track record in competing, including representing the British Pony Club team in 1995 in the Tetrathalon (a combination of shooting, swimming, running and riding).  He also qualified for Tweseldown, a prestigious 3 day eventing competition. During Tyrnog's first season Ray has trained all of our horses and had some great results. To read more about Ray's history please see our pedigree page.

 

Beth - Yard Manager

As second in command at Tyrnog Beth gets involved in all aspects of running the yard, stable management, riding out, sponsorship and race administration and many other things she never thought she would be involved with! She keeps everything and everyone organised for the yard and has a watchful eye on all goings on.

 

Laura - Exercise Jockey

Laura actually worked for Tyrnog Racing Yard when she was 16 for the original owners (Ray's uncle) and let's be fair and say X number of years later has returned to Tyrnog to share her wealth of experience and knowledge with us once again. Laura does a lot of the driving to events for us and handles all the clipping of our horses.

 

Debbie - Exercise Jockey

Also part of the original Tyrnog team X numbers of years ago, Debbie is an extremely experienced veteran rider with over 30 years training and riding experience. Ray draws on this experience when training the horses and is always keen to hear suggestions from Debbie's bank of knowledge. Debbie also does a lot of the driving for us and even uses her own lorry when we take more than 3 horses with us. Can you tell Ray doesn't like doing the driving yet?!

 

Len - Racing Manager

As our Racing Manager Len handles all of our entries to races, is an owner to some of our horses and is generally a backer and supporter of Tyrnog Racing Yard. Without his backing and support we would not be where we are today.

 

Amy - Racing Groom

Amy travels with us to all of our race meets ensuring the horses arrive in time, happy and ready to race. She helps us with all aspects of getting the horses prepared, making sure all the gear is where is needs to be, the tack is well maintained and all other preparation pre-race.

 

Matthew - Driver (and maintenance man!)

A hand that we could not do without is Matthew's hand! He is not only a driver for us but he also helps with the maintenance of the lorry, up keep of the jumps and any other odd jobs that need attending to to enable the yard to run smoothly and effectively.

 

 

The Jockeys at Tyrnog Racing Yard

 

Nick Slatter - 4 wins, 1 second, 2 thirds

We are very pleased to have Nick as one of our jockeys who has joined us from Donald McCain (Jr)'s yard. Nick has had an incredible season in 2011 and we hope his success will continue into 2012.

 

Lorna Brooke - 3 wins and 1 second - 2010-11 Season

Joining us from Henry Daly, Lorna is our lady jockey and (as far as we are concerned) had the ride of the season on Kalmo Bay this year. She has also had amazing results for us and even though Lorna unfortunately will not be riding for us in 2012 her successes for Tyrnog will not be forgotten.
